Resumo

A suture zone between H. erato cyrbia and H. himera has been found in southwestern Ecuador.Presumably F i and at least F2 hybrids have been captured, but their frequency is much lower than expected in the case of random mating and most individuals of the two parental taxa show no sign of hybridization.It is concluded that they behave as semispecies.The evolutionary significance of these observations is discussed.
