In spite of frequent subsequent reports of cures in the literature, this disease for many years has been thought to be almost always fatal. Goldstein and Goldstein2made an exhaustive study of the literature in 1927 and reported that "there are on record in the literature about 150 cases of recovery from proved pneumococcal meningitis." The recent increase in the frequency of reports of cures seemed to justify a review of the literature and especially an evaluation of the various methods...Bibliography1.
