Resumo

Using the composite material is due to its excellent properties and weight reduction. It is used in many applications; one of such applications is the prosthetic foot in which the weight reduction is very important. In this work, glass fiber with epoxy resin was used to manufacture the composite beams. The effect of hole shapes (square, or circular)along with hole location on the natural frequency and deformation of composite cantilever beams were studied. The hole locations were (0.25L, 0.5L, 0.75L) from the fixed end, and it seems that the effect on the first natural frequency is not more than 7% theoretically and 9% experimentally, were the second mode is not more than 4% theoretically and about 12%experimentally, while there is a slight effect in the third mode theoretically and experimentally. The beams natural frequency was theoretically computed using ANSYS program and the conclusion compared with the experimental work, in addition to the maximum deformation was studied theoretically by ANSYS program.
