Autores ResumoThe Description of Egypt was a work that was not as scholarly innovative as its creators believed it to be, and it was certainly less influential than they hoped. Edmé-François Jomard, its dedicated and committed editor, was the one who had brought the publication to completion against all odds; he had also contributed to the perception of the work as scholarly irrelevant. However, its well-documented editorial process and its volumes of texts and illustrations form a rich repository for the historian who follows the non-linear process by which antiquarianism methods of research contributed to the formation of the social sciences.
