ResumoA complex of nickel(II) with picolinic acid, [Ni(0.5)(2-picolinate)(H2O)]·H2O (1) was sythesized hydrothermally and were inspected for the photocatalytic removal of a series of 13 toxic organic dyes. Single crystal XRD analysis shows that (1) is monoclinic in nature. It exhibits good photocatalytic activity and kinetic studies showed the degradation percentage of cationic dyes, Crystal Violet (94%), Methylene Blue (92%), Methyl Violet (90%), Safranine O (88%), whereas 82% in Neutral Red which is a neutral dye, after the 150 min of irradiation. The pH effects were also investigated on the colorant concentration in presence of (1) in room illumination after 150 min of all the organic dyes. During the five recycling stages, the catalyst exhibited excellent structural stability and its performance remained great.
