Resumo본 연구는 ｢Sweat｣ "오스카"의 역할 창조 과정에서 성격특성이론과 비올라 스폴린의 연극게임 훈련 과정을 접목시켜 보다 입체적이고 다채로운 역할을 창조하고 실제 프로덕션 과정을 통해 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 린 노티지(Lynn Nottage)의 ｢Sweat｣는 미국 제조업이 몰락하는 가운데 신자유주의와 자본주의로 인해 파괴된 노동계급의 처절한 삶과 그 안에서 발생하는 인물들의 갈등을 보여주고 있다. 각 인물 사이에서 발생하는 사건들은 그들의 독특한 성격적 특성을 과감히 드러내고 있어, 인물 분석 과정에서 오스카의 성격적 특성에 중점을 두어 분석하였다. 그런데 오스카는 다른 인물들과의 직접적인 교류가 매우 부족하며, 극에서 오스카의 성격이 드러나는 언어적 요소는 많지 않다는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 기존의 연기접근 방법론을 통한 인물의 성격 분석방법은 텍스트에서 파악할 수 있는 정보의 한계로 인해 어려움에 직면하였다. 이를 해결하기 위해 "성격의 5요인 모형"을 통해 오스카의 성격유형을 도출하고자 하였다. 성격의 5요인 모형은 심리학에서 성격의 유형을 파악하는 데 보편적으로 사용되는 실무적인 연구방식이기에 인물의 성격을 유형화하는 분석이 가능하리라 판단하였다. 이를 통해, 오스카에게서 ‘높은 수준의 자의식’, ‘결핍된 사교성’, ‘도전적인 수용성’, ‘냉철한 가치추구’, ‘끊임없는 성취 열망’이라는 5가지 요인을 도출하였다. 그 결과, 기존의 배우 개인의 주관적인 성격 분석 방법을 보완하여 더욱 구체적이고 객관적인 인물 분석을 실행할 수 있었다. 또한, 도출해낸 오스카의 성격적 특징을 실제 프로덕션 과정에서 신체적으로 구현하기 위해 비올라 스폴린의 연극게임을 도입하였다. 스폴린의 연극게임은 배우의 즉흥성과 충동을 최대한 끌어올려 배우들이 기존의 틀에서 벗어나 더욱 자유로운 연기를 하도록 돕는 훈련법이다. 스폴린의 연극게임 훈련 중 오스카의 성격 특징을 신체화 하는데 가장 적합한 연극게임인 ‘등을 위한 훈련, ’정서 강도의 변화‘, ’접촉‘ 게임을 선택해 활용하였다. 3개의 게임은 실제프로덕션 과정에서 적용할 수 있는지, 오스카의 효과적인 직관적 움직임을 유도할 수 있는지, 각 장면에서 오스카의 성격 특징을 극대화할 수 있는지 여부를 기준으로 선별되었다. 이 과정에서 기존의 연극게임을 프로덕션에 맞게 변형하여 게임을 구성하였으며, 이를 토대로 즉흥성을 강화하고 신체적으로 자유로운 연기를 구사할 수 있도록 촉진하였다. 본 연구는 5요인 모형을 활용한 인물분석 방법을 제시하여 기존 연기접근 방법을 보완하고 연극게임을 통해 즉흥성과 충동을 발전시킴으로써 오스카의 역할 창조에 효과적인 방법론을 제시하고자 하였다. This study aims to create a stereoscopic and colorful character of Oscar in ｢Sweat｣by using a characteristic analysis theory and Theatre Games of Viola Spolin. Lynn Nottage’s ｢Sweat｣shows the destroyed desperate life and conflicts of the blue-collar caused by neoliberalism and capitalism in the collapsing American manufacturing industry. As the incidents among the characters in ｢Sweat｣ demonstrate their peculiar personalities, this paper focuses on their personalities. However, there are little elements that show Oscar’s characteristics because Oscar scarcely interacts with other characters. Because of the limitation of information from the text, it was difficult to derive Oscar’s personality clearly with conventional analysis methods. To solve this problem, the ‘Big 5 Model’ was used because this model is a practical research method normally used for verifying the type of personal characteristics. As a result, Oscar’s 5 characteristics were derived: ‘Strong self-consciousness’, ‘Lack of Sociality’, ‘Defiant Receptivity’, ‘Realistic Value-pursuing’, and ‘Constantly Pursuing Accomplishment’. In addition, Viola Spolin"s ‘Theatre Game’ was applied to physically embody the characteristics of Oscar in the actual performance. Theatre Game is a training method that maximizes the improvisation and impulse of actors. As a result, this study suggests a possibility that gets a way to create the character of Oscar by improving improvisation and impulsion through Theatre Games and the Big 5 model.
