Resumo

This paper analyses the cavern stability in the granite mass.Also, feasibility of using a cavern fuel storage is discussed.The shape and the dimension criteria were evaluated by numerical modelling, using the two-dimensional distinct element code UDEC.Rock properties were estimated from geological data by Bieniawski's rock mass rating.Though potentially unstable wedges appeared, with the unreinforcement models, cable reinforcement ensured stabilization of the rock wedges.
