This paper aims to analyze the formation of the city of Maceió using Jaraguá neighborhood as the epicenter. Through literature review, a timeline is built, dating from the XV century to the XIX century, in order to follow the transformations that led the neighborhood to its peak in the XVIII century, when it was densely populated, until its decline from the XIX century, deterioration that lasts until today, aggravated by unsuccessful attempts of local revitalization. With the timeline, we hope to understand how this process of late genesis of the city happened, as well as to reflect on how temporality can contribute to the preservation of the cultural heritage, since the materiality is impregnated by its marks.
