Early Modern Spanish Literature

This paper studies the numerous plagiarisms present in Juan de Mariana’s De rege et regis institutione taken from Jerónimo Osório’s De regis institutione et disciplina. The importance of the relationship established between these two texts underlies in the fact that both humanists played an important role in shaping the political thought of humanist Europe. We will compare and analyse the excerpts, and give insights on how this textual relation helps us clarify aspects about the composition date of Mariana’s work.
