ResumoWe are living in an era of unrivalled convergence of epidemic and other health threats, exacerbated by the climate and biodiversity crises. The hazards of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases spread from animals to humans increase the risk of future pandemics.1 Increasing concerns about cases of avian influenza A (H5N1) infections in people, birds, and mammals are another grave warning.2,3 To protect people and reduce the risk of pandemics, health threats must be rapidly contained with appropriate health countermeasures where and when they occur.
