Ecological Association of Diversity of Cow Bugs-Ants and Aphids-Ants Species in Pigeonpea and Safflower Ecosystems

ResumoIn pigeonpea, three cow bug species were recorded namely, (Anantasubramanian), sp. and Oxyrhachis apicalis Leptocentrus Otinotus Otinotus sp. of which, sp. was the most dominant species (relative abundance=76.48 %).All cow bugs were actively tended by one species of ant, Fab.In safflower, two aphid species were recorded ., (Theobald) and Camponotus compressus viz Urolecon compositae Aphis sp. was the most dominant species (relative abundance= 93.98 %), sp. was found in only tiny patches of field feeding only U. compositae Aphis on leaves.Three ants species found collecting honeydew from aphids by indirect method of tending ( by collecting honeydew fell on plant i.e. parts) ., , Fab. and sp.The different species of cow bug and their associated ants on viz C. compressus Tapinoma melanocephalum Polyrachis other host plants sp. on brinjal and almond, sp. on acacia, sp. on parthenium and were attended by the viz.,Leptocentrus Oxyrhachis Otinotus ant, .On black nightshade plant (S L.), the cow bug, sp. was found to be tended by the C. compressus olanum nigrum Leptocentrus Hunchbacked ant, Saunders.The aphids, Coquerel on banana, Koch on Myrmica riabrunnea Pentalonia nigronervosa Aphis croccivora pigeonpea and Passarini on pomegranate were tended by the ant, .
