A Love Story That Never Happened

Autores ResumoFocusing on his research for a biography of Brazilian singer and composer Miriam Batucada, Ricardo Santhiago reflects on an unexpected event. After interviewing dozens of friends, co-workers, and family members of Batucada, the author had the opportunity to talk with her first girlfriend, a woman with whom she had a strong partnership and love connection. The author discusses the ethical, professional, and personal dilemmas he faced in this situation, in which the interviewee not only peremptorily denied having had a romantic relationship with Batucada but also created a version of a story that does not match documented facts. For the author, it is an interview that compounds Batucada’s oblivion since her tragic death.
