ResumoThe red lionfish is an invasive species in the Atlantic, occurring from the USA to Brazil. Strategies to control this invasion include promoting the consumption of lionfish on a local commercial scale. Aiming to encourage the exploitation for consumption, and thus, contributing to the control of the invasion, we determined the fillet yield of the red lionfish. The average yield of red lionfish fillets was 36.3% and 30.0% of total wet body weight, respectively, for fillet with skin and fillet without skin, a value similar to that of other species of reef fish.
