ResumoNO WALL CAN STOP US PYALARA in pictures PYALARA © 2005 INTRODUCTION Since 1999, PYALARA has been working to empower young people. This photo essay sheds light on how volunteers at PYALARA (14-25 years old) view their participation within the organization and beyond; how it has affected their lives; and how they have been able to influence their peers throughout Palestine. This photo essay is the product of various workshops conducted with PYALARA volunteers. No wall can stop us... No checkpoint can stand in our way... Strong Palestinian youth... this is who we are... in spite of injustice and despair, yet we still can enjoy life. Ahmed Khalaf • 15 years old WORKING TOGETHER WORKING TOGETHER ,, ,, Cooperation motivates young people to carry on with their lives. PYALARA gives them the opportunities. Afterwards, they serve their peers and give opportunities to others. A dream is realized when we unite. Hand in hand we reach our goals. PYALARA has opened all closed doors for us. It feels good when we are given a helping hand from a responsible person, who feels with us, understands us and our needs. Nisreen Dahbour 19 years old When you find people who listen to you... when you find yourself responsible for many things.. when you find yourself in a group with young people just like you... when you find new friendships... for sure you will love life. You will love the new ideas that you can learn from people and you will find yourself important in society. Rima Al-Hasan 20 years old Iyad Nabil 14 years old ACHIEVING CHANGE ACHIEVING CHANGE The Youth Times is the platform where I stand up for my rights, oppose the aggression we are living in... I can always “Speak UP”... they listen... the world listens... my messages get across... PYALARA gave me the opportunity to express myself on behalf of Palestinian youth with so much confidence. Our talents are being activated for the benefit of the community. Lana Kamleh, 20 years old Before joining PYALARA, I was a very shy girl. Then, I started, taking part in different media activities. Now, I am no longer shy, I feel much more confident... I feel proud of myself. Ruba Mimi 18 years old Yara Shaheen 14 years old ,, ,, be the CHANGE you wish to see in the world ACHIEVING CHANGE No matter how bad things are, we stand with our heads held high, convinced with every step we take that we can still make a difference. Volunteering in PYALARA, you deal with yourself from the inside, you work with other young people, and raise your social awareness. Then, with them, as a group, you help in making your peers and the society aware of young people’s issues and problems.
