Während QR-CN im Grundzustand eine geschlossenschalige Chinoidstruktur aufweist, ist es für HR-CN ein Singulett-Biradikal. Beide Verbindungen zeigen im Nahinfrarot sehr starke Ein- und Zwei-Photonen-Absorption.
