ResumoIt is certainly an inventive production. Signor Visconti has in fact invented a new play, where major, significant and quite crucial pieces of action are introduced into a play by the director, without consultation with the author… . I did not write a play about two lesbians who caress each other continually. I did not write a scene in which a woman exposes herself to a man on stage. There is nothing in the text to indicate that the man and woman powder the naked breasts of the wife on stage. I did not write a musical. The characters sing songs but I did not state that a piano should accompany them, nor that the piano should continue in the most wildly inappropriate places. All the sexual acts I have referred to are not only inexpressibly vulgar in themselves but are totally against the spirit and intention… . Let me remind you that a play is not a public property.
