In 1765 and 1768, the Count of Oeiras, future Marquis of Pombal, Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, Home Secretary and valid of King D. José I, was sick and that was made public. This paper aims to study the three texts published when he recovered the health, trying to understand what image they convey of the Count of Oeiras and his political action.
