Assistive Technology in Communication and Mobility

Resumo

Public transportation is a vector of social inclusion. However, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities face a variety of barriers to independent travel in their communities. The results of this survey of support staff show that assistive technology systems can be a solution to improve the teaching of navigation skills in this population provided that it is truly adapted to the profile of the individuals: cognitive characteristics, needs, and initial skill level. Finally, effective use in daily life also requires the involvement of professionals in the design of such tools.
