ResumoThis work addresses the relationship between the city, its spaces, and contemporary transformations. Old industrial and port zones have faced the privatization of public spaces and the marginalization of local populations. The heritagization and revitalization of these places often exclude community participation, trivialize the past, and result in social segregation in the present. The monetization of historic spaces leads to standardized and commercialized leisure, with limitations on public access. In recent decades, occupation movements and cultural collectives have offered resistance, seeking alternative diverse forms of coexistence in cities subjected to neoliberal logic. This broader framework is the basis for the case study on the transformations of the Porto neighborhood in Pelotas, from industrialization to the revitalization of the area with new uses of buildings by the Federal University of Pelotas and the recent partial reactivation of the port. The analysis of the old dock space, known as "Quadrado," reveals different uses and publics, highlighting the resistance of young people and residents to privatization, as well as addressing elements of subjectivity and feelings of frequenters. Keywords: neoliberal cities; industrial heritage; Porto de Pelotas.
