ResumoIn Brazil, public health policies aimed at the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transvestite, transsexual and transgender population is an initiative to build greater equity in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), arising from a process of Brazilian democracy, in order to increase access to quality actions and services.It points out as an important landmark the recognition of the needs, diversities and health complexity of this population previously referred to AIDS.The present study had as objective to evaluate the level of knowledge of the students of the health area of the Faculdades Integradas de Patos-FIP about the National Policy of Integral Health the LGBT population and its clinical approach as future professionals.It is one of field research, quanti-qualitative.A total of 202 students aged 18 years and older belonging to the higher education institution of the health courses participated.It may be considered that there is a lack of knowledge when it comes to issues related to the health of the LGBT population.It was found that there is a long way to go in order to ensure the human right of health of this population group, above all prejudice and discrimination, the face of LGBTfobias and the lack of knowledge of students and professionals regarding the specificities of this group .
