Resumo

What makes for an engaging song? In Ella Fitzgerald’s interpretation of Cole Porter’s “Miss Otis regrets”, we argue that the peculiar composition of lyrics, music, and voice is responsible for the mobilization of emotions.We thus analyze the passion elements and the re-semantization of a formulaic expression through its repetition and the role of the musical component in the construction of unexpected contrasts and range expansion. Finally, the aprehension and valorization of meanings mobilized in the narrative by the narration instance is discussed, making the song an object of value.
