ResumoI will be forever grateful to the 200 brave American soldiers who climbed the 25-m-high cliffs of Pointe du Hoc in Normandy, France, under gunfire in the early hours of 6 June 1944, because they essentially came to deliver my parents from the German occupation. I was born in France after World War II, but growing up I heard a lot of terrible stories from my parents and grandparents. Fast forward about 60 years… I'm now a U.S. citizen, and U.S. Congressman Chet Edwards asked me and some of my colleagues at Texas A&M University to investigate the erosion and stabilization of the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc. I've performed many projects during my lifetime, but this one definitely ranks among the most special to me.
