From the 1960s, Belém/PA experienced significant expansions in the urban mesh that directed the city's growth mainly to the axis of Augusto Montenegro Avenue.In general, through the implementation of housing projects planned by COHAB/PA or by real estate developments destined for the popular market.The Jardim Maguari Complex, designed in 1970, is one of the housing projects planned on Avenida Augusto Montenegro and presents in its urban design principles of modern urbanism, which conflict with the current urban dynamics.Based on this, the article proposes to discuss the urban planning and the occupation process of the Jardim Maguari Complex.The research methodology consists of an urban analysis on the research and documental context to understand the changes in the way of living in Jardim Maguari Housing Complex and the gaps between urban planning and the current needs of the population.From this, we intend to discuss the transformations in the urban mesh and the forms of occupation of the Jardim Maguari complex over time.Therefore, this work contributes to the understanding of the developments regarding the modernist principles applied in the urban design of housing projects from a typical and recurrent case study both in Belém and in the Brazilian context.In general, the research seeks to help works that focus on researching new ways of living and deepening studies on housing projects implemented on Augusto Montenegro Avenue over time.
