ResumoIn the article, we present excerpts from the trajectory of Carlos, a young man who, after having his life threatened by members of a drug trafficking faction, joins a pentecostal church located in Campos do Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro. The objective of this work is to analyze an aspect of the relations between drug dealers and Pentecostals in a favela territory. The study was divided into two parts: we present ethnographic data in the period between 2018 and 2020, of the favela Tira-Gosto, the church Caminhos das Águas and Carlos' trajectory. In the second part, the relationship between Pentecostals and traffickers, in favela territories. We argue that such relationships should also be analyzed from the perspective of the spiritual battle and what we call the heroic trajectory. We also argue that Pentecostal adherence in a context of ordinary exception, such as the daily life of the favela in question, is a possibility of affirming life.
