Calvo-Quirós received his PhD in 2011 from the Department of Architecture and Environmental Design at Arizona State University for his work on lowriders aesthetics. He is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Chicana/o Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His dissertation focuses on the relationship between state violence and the phantasmagoric.
