ResumoResearch Article| April 01 2004 Fronteras y representaciones sociales: La figura del pocho como estereotipo del chicano José Manuel Valenzuela Arce José Manuel Valenzuela Arce José Manuel Valenzuela Arce, researcher at the cultural studies department in El Colegio de la Frontera Norte in Tijuana, Baja California, focuses on culture, identities, social movements, youth movements, and social urban studies. He is a member of the National System of Researchers in Mexico (SNI: Sistema Nacional de Investigadores) and recently won the “Musicology Award of Casa de las Americas 2001” for his book Jefe de Jefes. Corridos y Narcocultura en México (Plaza y Janés and Raya en el Agua, 2002). Among other books, he has written Empapados de Sereno. El movimiento urbano popular de 1928-1988, Mexico (1991), ¡A la brava ése! Identidades juveniles en México: cholos, punks y chavos banda (1997), and El Color de las Sombras: chicanos, identidad y racismo (1998). He can be contacted at jmvalen@colef.mx.
