Del Castillo, associate professor of Chicana and Chicano studies at San Diego State University, has published on gendered relations among lower-income groups in Mexico City and social citizenship in postnational contexts. She is currently working on a book on gender and pretence in Mexico and an essay on cultural citizenship for the New Dictionary of the History of Ideas. He is a member of the National System of Researchers in Mexico (SNI: Sistema Nacional de Investigadores) and recently won the “Musicology Award of Casa de las Americas 2001” for his book Jefe de Jefes. Corridos y Narcocultura en México (Plaza y Janés and Raya en el Agua, 2002). Among other books, he has written Empapados de Sereno. El movimiento urbano popular de 1928-1988, Mexico (1991), ¡A la brava ése!
