Resumo

Significance Trump won an unprecedented percentage of votes cast and established a record margin of 30 percentage points over second-placed Ron DeSantis, helped by a carefully planned strategy designed for Iowa. Next week’s New Hampshire primary offers a sterner test of his campaign, but he still appears set to win decisively. Impacts Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley now needs to beat Trump in New Hampshire on January 23 to maintain a viable campaign. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, polling poorly in New Hampshire, will feel increasing pressure to drop out and endorse Trump. Although Iowa is important as the first nominating state, the makeup of its electorate makes it an unreliable guide to outcomes elsewhere.
