Collembola Diversity of Moss Habitats in the Sopron Region, NW-Hungary

The Collembola fauna of the moss flora in the Sopron region was studied. 18 moss species as well as 3.451 Collembola specimens (belonging to 60 species) were collected in 2003/04 in moss samples of three habitats. The highest Collembola diversity was found in Tómalom (a reed bed habitat) where very low abundance and relatively high species richness were characteristic. The Collembola diversity of the other two habitats (Sopron, Botanic Garden; Fertőrákos – a dry xerophile grass habitat) was lower. The results have shown a relatively high similarity between the Collembola communities in Sopron and Fertőrákos while just the opposite was observed between the Sopron and Tómalom samples.
