ResumoThis article consists of a discussion about the relationship between the craft of tailoring in Manaus, the tailoring workshop at the Escola de Aprendizes Artífices do Amazonas and the context of the city in the period between 1910-1925 and 1940-1955. First, we sought to do a documentary research on this craft in the Jornal do Commercio (AM) from 1910-1925, a time when tailors were essential, and to compare it with the years 1940-1955, when manual crafts showed increasingly losing relevance. From this study, it was observed that a large number of tailoring advertisements gradually reduced, as the Rubber Cycle declined, which indicates in that context the strong relationship between purchasing power and the consumption of tailoring services.
