ResumoGeographical indications allow producers or service providers to obtain official recognition, preservation and enhancement of their products or services and the development of the territory where they operate. In this sense, the present work proposes to carry out a diagnosis of the potential of geographical indication and the type in which it fits, either Indication of Origin or Denomination of Origin, for sparkling wines produced in the municipality of Garibaldi, in the Serra Gaúcha. Through research in databases, questionnaires applied with grape and sparkling wine producers and with the Garibaldense community and the methodology proposed by Sebrae/Inovates, it was possible to verify the notoriety of the municipality object of this study. It is inferred that there is great potential for obtaining a Geographical Indication of the Indication of Origin type, considering that Garibaldi is, in fact, recognized as a center for the elaboration of sparkling wines.
