Resumo

Actinella gessneri Hustedt is a rare and poorly known Amazonian diatom species. Low records and restricted distribution to acid waters suggest that this species may be threatened with extinction. We record a new occurrence of Actinella gessneri Hustedt in Amazonian blackwaters, providing detailed images on LM and SEM, and approaching ecological aspects concerning habitat, quality water and hydrological periods.
