Resumo

Dear Editor, We read the published article entitled "Cornual Pregnancy" (Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy. doi: 10.4103/gmit.gmit_10_23) with great interest. Gaetani et al.,[1] mentioned in their published article that cornual ectopic pregnancy (EP) is a subtype of EP that occurs after the fertilized ovum's implantation in the interstitial part of the fallopian tube (FT) where it crosses the uterine muscular tissue to enter the uterine cavity. The published article "Cornual Pregnancy" by Gaetani et al.[1] is somewhat confusing to the readers. "Cornual EP" is an appropriate term for the pregnancy that occurs in the rudimentary horn of a uterus with Müllerian anomaly.[2-4] According to Gaetani et al.'s study,[1]Figure 1 shows the sonographic criteria of the interstitial EP (IEP) (i.e., empty uterus with an eccentric sac. The eccentric sac is >1 cm away from the lateral endometrial margin and surrounded by <5 mm myometrium).[5-7] The interstitial line (IL) is an echogenic line that extends from the eccentric sac to the endometrial margin. IL represents the interstitial part of the FT (IL has 80% sensitivity for diagnosing IEP).[8-10]Figure 1: Gaetani et al.'s[ 1 ] Shows the sonographic criteria of the interstitial ectopic pregnancy (IEP)According to Gaetani et al.'s study,[1]Figure 2 shows a uterus without any Müllerian anomaly which supports our suggestion that the published article "Cornual Pregnancy" by Gaetani et al.[1] should be changed to interstitial EP (IEP).Figure 2: Gaetani et al.'s[ 1 ] Shows uterus without any Müllerian anomalyIEP occurs after the fertilized ovum's implantation in the interstitial part of the FT where it crosses the uterine muscular tissue to enter the uterine cavity.[5] CONCLUSION The IEP occurs after the fertilized ovum's implantation in the interstitial part of the FT where it crosses the uterine muscular tissue to enter the uterine cavity. Cornual EP is an appropriate term for the pregnancy that occurs in the rudimentary horn of a uterus with Müllerian anomaly. Financial support and sponsorship Nil.
