Resumo

All analyses of the 2013 protests highlight the significance of the internet in this socio-political process. However, the role played by the digital environment is seldom thoroughly explored, often shrouded in mystique. Moreover, 2013 is frequently perceived as the inception of cyberactivism in Brazil, a distortion of history. This article, therefore, delves into the internet's central role in the 2013 protests, placing this moment in its historical context, to revisit what came before and observe what ensued in terms of cyberactivism. To achieve this, the article considers the technological aspects and their utilization for social and political mobilization, aiming to comprehend who used the internet, how, and for what purposes. The article's argument is that June 2013 marks a new chapter in the relationship between internet and politics in Brazil, which can be summarized as the rotinization of cyberactivism.
