Based on qualitative content analysis of in-depth interviews with academics in the fieldof Information Science, this paper focuses on the disciplinary and professional problems and challenges of information in Uruguay.The perspectives analyzedshow a clear concern for the great impact of ICTs in an information context affected by problems of reliability and quality,considered to be central, and by the degradation of the social use of information.They raise the need for an information literacythat addresses these new contexts and forinformation ethics in artificial intelligence, highlighting the importance of the role and social responsibility of libraries, archives and documentation centres as democratic spaces to embrace diversity, to help understand and interpret information and for the generation of reliable information flows that include the perspective of vulnerable sectors and minorities.
