Our objective in this article is to show some of the proposals presented by Cincinato Braga for the solution of Paulista problems in his book Brazilian Problems, first published in 1921. Beginning with this account, we shall try to analyse his output in the attempt to clear up some of the ideological components of his thought. We shall pause at three main points particularly discussed by the author: first, the defense of São Paulo in the national panorama; then his perspectives on capitalism in Brazil, including the problem of land (agriculture for export), of industry, and of commerce; finally, his view with respect to the “social problems”
