ResumoCover image: This month's cover shows a Marble White Melanargia galathea pollinating Knautia collina in an limestone grassland from southern France. This butterfly is a common species in Europe and feeds as an imago on the nectar from a wide range of flowers (with a preference for purple ones) while the larvae feeds on the leaves of various species of grasses. The Knautia gets pollinated while not being affected by the larvae herbivory. The generalist pollinating behaviour of the Marble White is illustrated on the photo by the presence of pollinia from the pyramidal orchid Anacamptis pyramidalis that were stuck on the butterfly's proboscis during a previous visit of the orchid flower (already illustrated in Darwin's Fertilization of Orchids from 1877).This picture illustrates the complexity of interspecific interactions even when considering only bipartite (two-level) networks.
