Resumo

Significance El Fasher is home to over 1 million civilians, including hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs). With documented evidence of RSF atrocities elsewhere in Darfur, as well as in the Darfur war two decades ago, these civilians face a severe and imminent risk. Impacts Beyond the warring factions, fighting will also draw in the numerous rebel and ethnic militias based in El Fasher. The aid community’s fixation on technical definitions of famine has diluted advocacy efforts and may cost millions of lives across Sudan. RSF control of Darfur may fuel increased arms trafficking, rebel recruitment and instability across the Sahel.
