ResumoThis research deals with the phenomenon of haplology in Belense speech from the results of the effect of external factors, schooling and sex. The narratives used for this research come from the Geosociolinguistic Atlas of Pará Database – AliPa (Razky, Org, 2003), treated in the light of Variationist Sociolinguistics (Labov, 2008). The analysis of this research considers only the contexts of haplology in the scope of the sentence. The relevance of external factors on the phenomenon is confirmed by the selection of the variables education and sex by the variable rule program Goldvarb X. The preliminary results showed that haplology is a stigmatized rule in Belense speech because it is disadvantaged among women and the more educated. The low productivity of the phenomenon is related to schooling, which should act as an inhibitor of the rule.
