Resumo

This paper explores the connection between hetero-patriarchal structures and Chinese boys' love (BL) fandom discourse on Chinese social platforms Weibo and Bilibili, including comments, discussions, and various forms of fan production, fan-made videos, fanfic and fanart posted in supertopics of 20 popular BL onscreen khu jins who acted in live-action dramas produced in 2021-2023. Through qualitative thematic analysis, the paper examines how the fandom discourses on the BL khu jins engage with heteronormative norms in the larger society. This paper explores how the rising BL online subculture in China disturbs/reaffirms heteropatriarchical structures in Southeast Asia and its potential to advance LGBTQ awareness.
