ResumoThe Brazilian Inclusion Law (LBI) consolidates the definition of disability as a matter of social inequality and not just as a biomedical problem. This definition implies the need for biopsychosocial assessment to identify individuals eligible for reserved places in higher education. In 2024, the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) implemented a biopsychosocial validation process using the Brazilian Functioning Index (IFBr), a tool expected to become the sole instrument for assessing disability in all public policies. This paper reports on UFMG's experience with training for the use of the instrument and the implementation of evaluation panels, contextualizing its use in relation to the history of the instrument and the procedures adopted at other universities.
