ResumoThis research was conducted through a qualitative case study by comprehensively investigating samanera pabbajja at Borobudur Temple in December 2023. A person who practices to become a samanera aims to see correctly about suffering and at the same time practice to overcome suffering itself. By practicing, a person has the capital to grow and develop social and spiritual transformation for the better. Referring to Van Gennep's Rites of Passage theory, the social transformation system is in three stages that begin when a person is ready to take on a changing role in society. The next three stages are the separation stage, the initial transition stage, and the reintegration stage. Rites of passage are therefore the process of physical and cultural role and responsibility changes. This separation can occur symbolically, physically, or emotionally. In line with Van Gennep's Rite de passing theory, Pabbajja samanera is a form of self-training as a process of separation in spiritual transformation. This research used a qualitative descriptive method, with an ethnographic approach. The purpose of this research is to explore and describe the process in three stages. The purpose is to provide an overview of the meaning contained in each of these stages.
