Resumo

In the field of human sciences, fighting, martial arts and combat sports have been the object of research, and are approached from diverse methodological approaches, including ethnography. In this sense, this study aimed to analyze the academic productions on fighting, martial arts and combat sports developed in light of the ethnographic method. Based on an integrative review, 12 articles were selected which, after thematic analysis, allowed the construction of four categories: development of social relations in martial arts; body self-perception of martial arts practitioners; motivations for practicing martial arts; influence of ideological aspects on the practice of martial arts. The sportification of these practices has influenced their configurations, and their experience, based on different objectives, contributes to establishing peculiar dispositions in practitioners, who begin to assume certain perceptions of life and behaviors. From the above, it was possible to verify the importance of the ethnographic method for understanding the sociocultural aspects that involve bodily combat practices.
