ResumoABSTRACT The objective of the article is to analyze the strategies and movements of private higher education groups publicly traded on the Brazilian stock exchange (B3) from 2007 until the COVID-19 pandemic. The investigation focuses on the groups Cogna, Yduqs, Ser Educacional and Ânima, with data taken from Hoper Consultoria and Instituto SEMESP, in addition to mapping the movements recorded on B3 and related news. It is concluded that, during the pandemic, these companies obtained good economic results, therefore satisfying their shareholders, in view of the dynamism in the restructuring and diversification of portfolios. Hybrid learning should be the trend for the next few years. However, the precariousness of teaching work has worsened, as did market financialization and concentration—characteristics of the four groups analyzed, which can be further accelerated both in higher education and in basic education through e-learning, besides the focus on niche markets, especially medical courses.
