ResumoThis article analyzes an anonymous report of the battle of Alcácer Quibir (1578), entitled Jornada de África del Rey D. Sebastião written by an African man, which covers the period between 1578 and 1595. In the light of the political context of the Iberian Union (1580-1640), when Portugal was part of the Hispanic monarchy, it was concluded that the work was written to legitimize Philip II as heir of the Portuguese crown, after the death of D. Henrique. Therefore, the unknown author elaborated pejorative interpretations of D. Antonio, the main opponent of the Castilian king, and of D. Sebastião, considered responsible for the Portuguese defeat in Morocco. an African man, which covers the period between 1578 and 1595.
