ResumoA study has been carried out to understand the potential factors resulting in the formation of new lake in the Aksai Chin region. Geospatial data products and climatic parameters have been analyzed using GIS techniques. Standard statistical tests such have been adopted to understand the trend and slope in the datasets. Study revealed that the flow of water from Aksai Chin Lake to the adjacent area was observed during August 2023 and a new lake was formed during September 2023. From statistical analysis, a significant upward trend in the temperature and snow cover was observed resulting in increase in the runoff. Further considerable reduction in snow cover area during January and September 2023 also contributed to the runoff. The melting of snow, along with gradual increase in rainfall, contributed to a rise in the inflow to lake. This caused flow to adjacent dry land resulting in formation of new lake.
