ResumoA provenance trial involving 50 provenances of Acacia catechu from the state of Himachal Pradesh was laid out at the Regional Horticultural Research Station at Jachh in the year 1988 to evaluate their performance for further afforestation programmes. The results indicated significant variation in growth performance of different provenances. The 20 best performing provenances were selected in the year 1998 and the above ground biomass was determined by felling sample trees. The height and diameter ranged from 6.02-8.85 cm and 8.45-14.11 cm respectively. The provenances, viz., P15 (Parwanoo-5), P10 (Sadar Bilaspur-4), P13 (Subathu-5) and P14 (Nurpur upper –2) produced the highest above ground biomass.
