ResumoSignificance Meanwhile, President Yoon Suk-yeol’s unpopular lame duck presidency has become more tenuous as prosecutors’ investigations continue into both Yoon and his wife, on one side, and Lee, on the other, damaging their and their respective parties’ reputations. Impacts Lee’s disqualification would spark factional struggle in the opposition for the presidential nomination. Yoon’s October 21 meeting with ex-protege Han Dong-hoon, the PPP leader and a likely presidential contender, failed to heal a growing rift. Despite DPK rallies like in 2016, which contributed to then-President Park Geun-hye’s impeachment, Yoon will likely serve out his term.
