Resumo

This proposal was carried out through extension activities, specifically in actions implemented in the community of Juá, in Irauçuba, in the semi-arid region of Ceará. The objective was to seek harmonious coexistence with the semi-arid environment, by integrating the researchers' knowledge with that of the community, allowing for greater engagement of their knowledge beyond the university walls. In this way, the proposal aims to respond to social demands by rethinking the university’s social identity and positioning it as an agent of social transformation, adhering to the principle of inseparability between teaching, research, and extension. The proposal discussed soil and water management through social technologies in the semi-arid environment. On this occasion, thematic workshops were held, as well as a field trip, specifically to Jaibaras, 100 km away from the local community. After the activities, there were painting workshops with earth, and the results were displayed on a board illustrating the perception of those involved. It was possible to see the involvement of the class and their perception of the environmental problem and the possibilities of promoting improvements with popular participation.
