Resumo

this text aims to discuss and expose processes of struggles within the cultural field, debating an afro-indigenous manifestation of great importance in the Zona da Mata Norte region of the state of Pernambuco. Through qualitative approaches and bibliographical bias, we will, based on the writings of Guerra-Peixe (1980) and Severino Vicente da Silva (2012), relate workers and rural residents with the Maracatu game of Baque Solto. Other researchers have already emphasized that the origins of the Maracatus are embedded in the contexts of slavery and the desired freedom during the 19th century. Thus, we will make connections and discuss this cultural legacy using the perceptions of Gramsci (1986), Peter Burke (2008) and Michel de Certeau (2014) for our social, historical explanations and beliefs present in the daily lives of maracatuzeiros practitioners.
